Zatoun announces opening of Beit Zatoun

Housed in a beautiful, large space with a terrific location at Bathurst and Bloor, Beit Zatoun looks to fulfill its mission to be an art and culture venue.
Beit Zatoun (translates as "House of Olive") is a gallery and performance space for the justice and human rights community in Toronto. It aims to raise awareness and create greater understanding as ultimate means to peace through art and culture by hosting exhibits, talks, screenings, plays, music, dance, workshops, and a resource centre.
Although at the core, the question of Israel/Palestine is but an intersection point for many struggles and human dimensions. Beit Zatoun invites and welcomes all communities resisting oppression and affirming the rights of individuals everywhere to live in dignity and freedom.
Beit Zatoun is also the global office and centre for Project Hope, a long-time partner of Zatoun. All Zatoun products will be available for sale at Beit Zatoun.
Regular Hours:
Wednesday, 12 noon to 6 pm
Thursday & Friday, 12 noon to 8 pm
Saturday & Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm
Monday & Tuesday, Closed
Events will extend beyond the posted times.

CBN is dedicated to donating a portion of all the bikes we refurbish to people with low income.

On eve of Vancouver Games, MSN/PlayFair campaign launch website rating sportswear brands on worker rights
This morning, Kevin Thomas of the Maquila Solidarity Network was on CIUT's Take 5 to talk about the launch of the Play Fair website:
"With the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games only weeks away, an international coalition of worker rights organizations has released its rating of commitments made by major sportswear brands to eliminate sweatshop abuses in their global supply chains. The ratings are based on the responses of the sportswear companies, including Nike, Adidas, Puma and others, to a series of demands put forward by the coalition on the eve of the 2008 Beijing Olympics."
It's a complicated business, but sounds like the report has done it justicc - definately worth checking out.

WAR RESISTERS FILM SCREENING IN MISSISSAUGA

The Mississauga Coalition for Peace & Justice and the War Resisters Support Campaign are co-sponsoring a public forum in support of Bill C-440, the private member's bill calling on the government to allow US war resisters to stay in Canada. Similar events are being organized all over Ontario, and across Canada, to build public support for the bill.
Please join us for a film screening, followed by a discussion with two war resisters.
When: January 21, 2010 at 7 pm.
Where: Mississauga Central Library, Room CL-3, 301 Burnhamthorpe Rd., adjacent to Square One.

Our Times: Canada's Independent Labour Magazine has announced a sneak preview of its upcoming issue:
"Our Times' winter issue (Vol.28 No.6) is going to have an exciting focus on labour history. We'll be highlighting Canadian composer Danny Schur's work putting workers' collective history to music, including his musical production Strike!, about the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike. We'll also be featuring an article inspired by the 10th anniversary of the protest in Seattle against the World Trade Organization. Labour educator Brian Charlton asks the question: What did we learn then that we can use today in our present-day struggles? And Steven High, Canada's research chair in public history, refutes business professor Richard Florida's claim that blue-collar workers are past history. Plus, much, much more, including an on-the-ground report from Toronto's conference called "Good Green Jobs for All."
